Exploring Houston

For a variety of reasons (training for big hikes, pandemics, etc.) I have been doing a variety of hiking, biking and kayaking in and around Houston over the past year. On this page I will blog the routes that I have taken.

Hiking

I started doing some long hikes in 2018 in preparation for the Colorado Trail in the fall. All of these hikes start from our place in the Montrose area.

Hike #1 – Columbia Tap Loop

Hike #2 – East to Houston Ship Channel

Hike #3 – Northwest Along White Oak Bayou

Hike #4 – Rail Line North – Jan 27, 2020

Hike #5 – Red Line South – Jan 31, 2020

Hike #6 – Purple Line South – Feb 7, 2020

Kayaking

I got the idea for kayaking the bayous in Houston from my buddy Emerson.  When it looked like the pandemic shut-in was going to last a while I decided to buy a back-packable, inflatable kayak and hit the water.
